Story:  This mosaic was part of a program developed for the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s St. Charles Fine Art Show, partnering with schools in D303, to give students the chance to create art which was then installed in their schools, and to showcase the Fine Art Shows’ “Living Artists” program.  The mosaic is titled Riverscape, and is the work of Laura Rendlen, a mosaic artist and teacher from Chicago.  Some of the ceramic elements in the mosaic are the work of students in ceramics classes at East.

The mural is comprised of 4 – 3 ‘ x 5’ sections installed in an area that houses some of East’s permanent art collection.  Approval and support for the project came from East H.S. Principals Bob Miller and Charlie Kyle, Assistant Principal Bob Abraham, D303 facilities staff, and Ms.Rendlen.  Fred Schmidt of Century Tile was responsible for the donation of glass and ceramic tiles that were collected over many months by his employees to our artists’ specifications.  Other mosaics from the mosaic projects are installed at Thompson 7th and 8th Grade Center, Norton Creek Elementary School, Wasco Elementary School, Fox Ridge Elementary School and St. Charles East High School.
